( #002 ) FAKE MARRIED AU

the 'fake married' meme
be it for a job, in order to get your inheritance or to fool your nosy neighbours, you are pretending to be married. now the question is, do you want it to be real or can you hardly wait for it to be over? |
newt (the maze runner)
IS THIS TOO VAGUE idk
It’s actually pretty tame for WICKED: there are no monsters being thrown at them, no maze, no struggling to survive day by day and figure out the meaning of it all. Honestly, pretending to be married to his best friend ranks pretty low on the scale of horribleness. No one is getting hurt, no one is suffering and everyone gets to have a meal each day.
Which is why they are stuck like this. As long as they are doing this, as long as long as they keep on faking the test is going just as they expected and they aren’t pulled outside, as long as they don’t figure out something went wrong with the devices in their head and they have gotten most of their memories back… things will stay like this. And that’s a good thing.
So why is this whole situation putting him on edge? Why does he feel like something’s wrong, like something isn’t like it shouldn’t be?]
You did promise me a happy ending, I guess.
works for me!!! :3c
the fact that he's currently sort of pretending to be married to alby? that's no big deal.
but, for a little while, he'd thought he was, in fact, married, that that had just been a fact of life WICKED hadn't taken from him, and he'd been sort of thankful for it, to have a little, nice thing in such a shucked up miserable life, but, like everything, it turned out to be fake, too. the feelings that come from that are confusing and frustrating and newt's really not complaining that they need to keep it up a little bit longer, to keep WICKED from getting suspicious.
he snorts, leans in a little closer to alby so they can speak quietly. ] Guess I did. Didn't realize I was proposin' ya bloody marriage.
[ that feeling of not right seems to sort of sit in his gut, churn endlessly in the back of his head, but newt tries to ignore it, reaching over and covering alby's big hand with his small one. ] How long you think the test's gonna last?

It’s weird, having something like… two sets of memories right now. He still remembers clearly how much the married Alby liked that his hands were so big in comparison to Newt’s hands. He liked to hold them, liked that he could almost cover Newt’s hand completely with his own. …He still likes that, or is that a fake memory? He really can’t see this not being weird any time soon. But he still reaches to squeeze the hand in what he hopes is a reassuring way.]
Shuck if I know. Months, maybe? Stuff usually lasts forever with them. [Alby’s favorite thing: questions unanswered. Newt was one of the few things he knew for sure, one of the few things he didn’t have any doubts about because you’re supposed to trust your best friends. And now he doesn’t even have that.
Worst part is he doesn’t have anyone to yell at about it.]
But we’ll manage, yeah? Acting chummy-chummy can’t be that hard.

he and alby were best friends, above all else. that, that much was an indisputable fact. whatever bonds they'd formed in their time together couldn't be faked by WICKED--could they? newt likes to think not. after all, they couldn't have planned for alby dragging him out of the maze like he did, saving his life when newt, at the time, hadn't wanted to be saved.
his mouth curves up in a little bit of a smile, though, and he nudges alby's shoulder with his own, thumb absently stroking over his palm. ] Guess it's alright, stuck with a shank like you. Could be worse--coulda had me married to Gally.
[ he's doing his best to lighten the mood, a little--newt's no minho, and he may not really be married to alby, but if there's one thing he hates, it's seeing him hurt, upset. ] C'mon, then, got a good front to put on for the kids.
