you are a cop. you're also magical. the two are not unrelated: while wizards are not particularly common, someone's got to make sure that the arm of the law extends also to the supernatural, and that's where you (and your partner?!) come in. whether it's chasing down rogue wizards, making peace between supernatural entities, or interrogating ghosts that have witnessed crime, getting coffee or a pint at the pub after hours, you have your hands full.
just don't make too many wand jokes, keep property damage to a minimum, and don't forget to do the paperwork at the end of the day.
an AU inspired by the rivers of london series by ben aaronovitch
[ There was a little girl waiting by the door of Dresden's apartment. Blonde, blue-eyed, neatly if conservatively dressed. Alone, or seemingly so. She would almost seem eerie... ]
[ ... Unless one knew her already. Then it was either worse or better than eerie. ]
[ Harry was just coming off a shift that was longer than anyone sane should probably undertake, but that was probably just another bit of evidence against claims of his sanity. He was dead beat and aching to sink into his bed for about twenty years, but of course, as he turned the corner to find that little girl waiting right by his door, he knew that wasn't going to be in the cards. ]
A little early to be selling Girl Scout cookies, isn't it? [ It wasn't too far into the morning and he didn't think a kid should up that early. But then again, he didn't like getting up that early as an adult. ]
[ Her lips pursed, and her chin rose, eyes suddenly looking far older... even as she did not quite force herself to stop showing her hands, both empty. No cookies. ]
Wizard Dresden.
[ Clearly not here for his day job. Besides, who ever even tried to say that Harry Dresden was sane? Either way, it was a formal address, and she waited for him to respond. She wasn't asking him to let her in, at this point, so that falling into bed thing might not be that distant. Possibly. ]
[ Well, that look was something Harry had only seen a few times from wizards far his senior, and not nearly with as much depth. To see that coming from a little girl was unnerving, but- as far as he knew, she was still a kid, if not a usual one. He steeled himself up a little after that address. ]
Well that's a title I don't get called much out of club meetings or DnD. [ He offered a small grin.
[Petre would be one of those entities, placed on your world to cause a little bit of chaos. He can be reasoned with as long as you give him something nice, though, so he'd be the one to go to for information and resources you probably can't get through the proper channels.
[ Erik's a cop and one of the wizards, but there's more to him than his colleagues now. in truth he's working undercover for the supernatural so they can one day take over the world and you know, the usual. he tries to find out about the crimes beforehand so he can warn those involved. the more free supernatural entities out there, the better. whether Petre knows he's a dirty cop or not is up to yooou. ]
[ and he's buying him a drink. ]
Bartender. The usual for me and whatever he's having.
[Oh, hey. If it isn't one of Petre's favorite cops. There's a smirk ready for Erik when he sits by his side, earning a passing glance before he nods agreeably at the bartender. Everybody knows Petre's a frequent customer by now - where else would a demon be served so well?]
[ he respects both Petre's business and his talents. it would be great to have him on their side. he pays for the drinks before replying to the guy next to him. ]
[ Five foot nothing, a hundred pounds nothing, Karrin Murphy didn't seem like much. And, even after dabbling for a while - thanks to a friend - most of the supernatural underworld didn't associate her with order keeping that pertained to them. Then again, she was vanilla human, why should they? For now, it took minimal precautions - though, of course, any that he called for - to meet with the informant. She almost smiled, too, his grin so misleading in either how old he might be or how much trouble he could get into. ]
Depends on how you define "big." [ Bob spread his hands and shrugged a little. There was always a hint of a smirk about his mouth and eyes and that was no different today. He was so grateful the H-man had sent this one his way, because wow- in his line of work? He didn't get much in the way of lookers. ]
I mean, there's "wipe a city out" big, "extinction level event" big, with varying degrees of dangerous in-between, and it kinda keeps going up from there, but it sort of stops making much different to you guys. I mean, the dinosaurs got wiped out by something you'd call "big," but some things would just call that "clocking into work." [ Was she ready to hit him yet? ]
[ Ohhh, that look was something. It made Bob just grin even further and appreciate why Harry seemed so fond of her. Bob was almost starting to think she might be somewhat capable of surviving in their world. At least longer than any old joe off the street. ]
I guess you could call it an elephant on the rampage, when there are giants out there in the world. [ He was so helpful, wasn't he? At that point, the drink he had ordered from the bar had arrived and he took it up to take a sip. Unlike his "friend," Bob liked his "girly" drinks: fruity, brightly colored, and everything. ]
Okay, long story short- you might lose a good chunk of the state. Might seem catastrophic on a national level, but like I said- there are bigger and badder options out there.
[Officer Velma Martinez doesn't wear a costume, and does carry a badge, but she still works with life energies and carries some 'golems' that look suspiciously like stuffed animals, action figures and my little ponies.]
[Every police force needs a magical swat team, and Tazendra is it. Fae, magically gifted, and with a case file warning her about overkill and police brutality... though never in cases where she wasn't attacked.]
ooc | fbi agent argent at your service. well, human but well-versed in the magical and mystical. reformed werewolf hunter. allison is human, but i'd love for her to have a supernatural partner.
[The cop with a tendency to ignore orders and blow down walls to get his guy.
Or the ex-magical-cop-now-magical-vigilante with equally hot-headed habits, who always seems to be around when particularly notorious criminals go missing. Hmm.]
